I hope you haven't bought one "in the blind". Yaks definitely need a test trip prior to purchase - no matter if it's very short. I would not mislead you on this!
Rules of thumb - and generally speaking!
Longer is faster, shorter is more maneuverable.
Sit-on-top is more comfortable to fish from. It's also easier to get back into when you flip it.
Do not buy all the additions (Bells and whistles) that are offered for a particular model, but do buy a model that can accept the ones you might want later.
Get a paddle that can convert from double-blades to a single-blade. It's awfully hard to fish with a double-bladed paddle!
Feel free with any questions. Honestly, I have never fished from a Yak, but I know them, and I have fished from every other type of paddle-craft known to mankind. Bon chance.

Good deal. I might try our spot at -Mud point- is it?

I don't know if I told you but I'm also getting a kayak in the near future if you ever want to go sneak some reds with me in your canoe.

Last Wednesday Barbara's boss got three reds along the west shoreline of the northwest pocket, popping shrimp. I went Monday, got disgusted with the muddy water after a half-hour or so of pitching a spinnerbait, and went home. Working a shrimp-tipped jig like we have done before might yield a few - MIGHT!
Holler at me if you need company. Rather, you find some decent (Smallish!) shrimp, and we'll go in my boat. Two of us, anyway. Three would be too much of a load.

Oops!
Just checked the W&F news site and discovered the shrimp season in that area should have opened Monday last (7th).
Get Poppa to loan you the bay-boat and head to Tee-Butte!

Shoot. I've been reading all of the speck reports and wasn't sure how long it would last.

Thanks.

Zack -
There are probably plenty of shrimp still in the bays, so some specks should still be around, too. However, I believe the Spring shrimp season opens Monday - lots of boats and stirred-up water. I might be way wrong, but I kinda doubt a trip down there would be worth the effort now.

If I can get the flat running, I might head to Houma at the end of next week with Stephen. Think the trout will still be in Merchant or will they be headed out?

Thanks!
